A foolproof recipe, the new vodka redbull, your favorite artist's favorite artist, and a ny date spot
Welcome to my brain
Tomorrow is the summer solstice - the longest day of the year. As someone who absolutely loves late sunsets and not needing to worry about outerwear, it is a bittersweet day. Longest day of the year means I get to enjoy glorious late sunsets for a little while longer, but it also means that each day that comes after has slightly less daylight until we are back into the land of 4:30pm sunsets. However, without these 4:30pm sunsets - these late night sunsets wouldn’t feel so special.
With that being said, here’s what I’ve been loving this past week during these glorious, long days.
Hot Grill Summer
I have been blessed with a grill and a fiancé who loves to grill. Thus, I am officially declaring it… hot grill summer. You heard it hear first.
I’m a big fan of grilling food because it is actually so much easier to grill food and make it taste delicious than it is to follow a complex recipe. Here is a fool proof “recipe” you can follow and make your own:
Choose a protein and a vegetable or two.
Brush olive oil, salt, pepper, over said protein and vegetable(s).
Place protein and vegetable on grill until desired done-ness. For veggies, I like to get a nice char.
Sprinkle Maldon flakey sea salt, perhaps a squeeze of lemon if you are fancy.
Enjoy!
As far as proteins, I’ve been enjoying chicken thighs and sausages but you can easily step this up by going for a lamb chop or steak. For vegetables, I like to include onions, something green like asparagus or broccolini, and then something that is in season like zucchini or summer squash.

The New Vodka Redbull
I haven’t had a Vodka Redbull in probably over 10 years. Recently, if I’m looking for a little caffeine in my drink, I will opt for an Eresso Martini, but I’m not always in the mood for an espresso martini. Recently, I was introduced to a Tequila Yerba Mate made with White Label Yerba Mate - a lightly sweetened, yerba mate soda that has ashwagandha in it. It’s delicious, has about as much caffeine as a cup of coffee, and feels light and refreshing.

Your favorite artist’s favorite artist
Last night I fell into an hour long TikTok hole where all I did was watch videos of Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, aka Chappell Roan. It started with a video of her singing Pink Pony Club to a crowd that was clearly so euphoric and engaged that I couldn’t help but also feel a small amount of that joy that the crowd felt. I am late to Chappell Roan, but it is clear to me that she is a star. If you haven’t heard any of her music, I recommend starting with Pink Pony Club. It is dance-y, extremely singeable, and about wanting to exist in a place where you can be your authentic self and be accepted for it.
Now that you’ve heard the original, please watch this video and see what it looks like to watch a super star in the making.
Sexy, New York Date Spot
The Nines is a restaurant/bar that feels very New York - it is sexy, covered in red velvet and leopard print, has incredible (albeit $20+) cocktails being made by sharply dressed barstaff in white jackets, and a piano bar and singer. I had The Nines cocktail, made with blanco tequila, passion fruit, lime, aperol - perfect for a summer evening. This is a great date night or special occasion spot.

And that’s it from me this week. Enjoy the solstice tomorrow!
xx,
M
